James and the giant peach revolves around the main character, james henry trotter who has become an orphan after his parents passed away, in a rather dark and strange situation, who now has to live with his two awful aunts. This is a story and accepting gifts from strangers (particularly old men in bushes) and running away from home are not good things to do. As in many of the great roald dahl's works, the central character is a poor, deprived child, and seeing james henry trotter rise from his lowly state to become a leader with true friends is immensely satisfying. I read james and the giant peach when i was 12. James is not only struck by sadness at his parents’.
